US Savings Bonds

MPO Federal Credit Union proudly offers both Series EE and Series I bonds.

Like any other US Government security, Savings bonds are backed by the full faith and credit of the US Government. They can be purchased in denominations as small as $25.00. The government allows each individual to purchase up to $15,000.00 in Savings Bonds each year.

  • Interest earned on a US Savings Bond is exempt from State and Local income tax.
  • Generally a low risk savings product.
  • Reliable.
  • Bonds sold and redeemed at all MPO branch locations.

Bond Types

Series EE

  • Secure savings product.
  • Pays interest based on current market rates for up to 30 years.
  • Paper bonds are sold at 1/2 face value.*
  • Minimum term of ownership is 1 year.
  • Interest earning period is 30 years.

    *If you like, you may purchase series EE bonds at full face value by visiting TreasuryDirect.gov

Series I

  • Low risk, liquid savings product.
  • Earns interest while protecting you from inflation.
  • Both paper and electronic bonds are sold at full face value.
  • Minimum term of ownership is 1 year.
  • Interest earning period is 30 years.
