Card Compromise

Visa Debit and Credit Card Compromise - February 2009

Heartland Payment Systems, Princeton, N.J., publicly began reporting in January 2009 that they were the victim of a security breach within there own processing system. MPO has been notified by our debit and credit card processor of all card/members who's account information MAY have been breached.

Our procedure is as follows -

  • Notify affected members via mail.

  • The first set of letters were sent at the end of January.

  • The second set of letters were sent the middle of February.

  • New credit and debit cards are ordered from our processor.

  • New PIN's are also requested at this time.

Once you have received your new card, we ask that you:

·      Call the credit union upon receipt of your new card/s so that we may complete old to new card conversion. This process will allow your new card to work with your account number. Please call the MIDDLETOWN branch at 845-343-2850 – You may leave a message on our answering system if you call during non-business hours. Just your name and that you received your new card is sufficient message.

·      Call the 800 number on the card to activate the card.

·      Please allow 12 hours prior to first use of your NEW card once credit union has been notified of receipt. If you receive your card over the week end, you may call and leave a message that you received your new card, however, old to new card conversion will not occur until the next business day.

NOTE: As a safety precaution, ALL breached card numbers will be blocked 10 business days from date of issue. This will render your old card un-useable.

Please be assured that MPO is actively monitoring the activity on your account to protect all of its members from fraud.

MPO would like to stress to all of its members the importance of monitoring all account transactions. If you suspect fraud, please contact us immediately so that we may rectify any discrepancy in a timely manner. As always, you are protected with Visa’s Zero Liability policy which means you pay nothing for unauthorized purchases on your account.

Additional information is also available at Heartlands website  - www.2008breach.com . We are pleased that this merchant has maintained its high level of customer service by providing detailed information regarding this incident.

Please, if you should have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to serve your needs and want you to feel safe in your choice of financial institutions.
